Business Description

Boundary Electric, founded in 1947 and headquartered in Grand Forks, British Columbia, designs, manufactures, and services transformers, switchgear, substations, and modular data centers for cryptocurrency mining, AI/HPC data centers, utilities, oil and gas, renewable energy, and industrial customers across North America.

The company's product catalog spans padmount, polemount, dry-type, and substation-class transformers; high-voltage circuit breakers; unitized substations; metal-enclosed medium-voltage switchgear; and custom prefabricated modular data centers engineered for crypto mining and AI/HPC power loads. An in-stock transformer division supports rapid deployment on time-sensitive projects, and a transformer reconditioning service extends asset life for utility and industrial operators. Boundary Electric manufactures from ISO 9001:2015 certified facilities in British Columbia and Texas, holds Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB), Six Sigma, and WHMIS 2015 credentials, and has supplied electrical infrastructure to underground mining operations, lumber mills, and regional electric utilities since its founding.

Named client projects in the Bitcoin mining sector include the full electrical build-out of DMG Blockchain's 85 MW facility at Christina Lake, British Columbia: the turnkey scope covered 24 custom-built 2,500 kVA unit substations, a dedicated control center, high-voltage underground cabling, and warehouse electrical distribution across the 33-acre site. Boundary Electric also supplied custom power skids and splitters to Bitfury's cryptocurrency mining operations in Alberta. The company has separately shipped more than 150 one-MVA modular data centers to oilfield operators across North and South America, enabling Bitcoin mining fueled by stranded flare-gas energy.

In October 2025, Boundary Electric opened a newly renovated and expanded manufacturing facility in Grand Forks, adding approximately 100,000 square feet of production space to support increased transformer fabrication output. A second North American location in Houston, Texas targets U.S. power infrastructure customers, and an Overseas Quality Control team supports international procurement. The combined workforce exceeds 100 employees globally, and the company holds a Great Place to Work® certification in Canada.

With more than 120,000 square feet of combined manufacturing capacity and a product line running from in-stock distribution transformers through turnkey modular data center enclosures, Boundary Electric operates as a specialist supplier to the North American power infrastructure buildout. British Columbia announced a permanent ban on new cryptocurrency mining grid connections in 2025, building on a provincial moratorium first imposed in 2022 and extended through 2024. The company's Houston expansion and AI/HPC-capable modular data center line target U.S. markets where grid capacity remains available.
